His ceramics have been widely exhibited in Europe, North America, Australia and Kuwait. He has lectured and given numerous workshop demonstrations in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States of America as well as many more in Britain. He is a Member of the International Academy of Ceramics; a Fellow of the Craft Potters' Association of Great Britain; a Fellow of the Society of Designer-Craftsmen, and his work is included in the British Crafts Council's selective Index, Craftsmen of Quality, in London.

In 1987, after more than thirty years of full-time teaching in schools, colleges and university, Peter resigned his Senior Lectureship at the University of East Anglia to concentrate fully on his own creative work and writing about contemporary ceramics. He now lives and works in Alresford, Hampshire in the south of England.

In Peter Lane's current work, he attempts to capture the luminosity and qualities of light and colour through a series of porcelain bowls and vessel forms.
